Like other former industrialized cities in the Great Lakes region, Buffalo, NY is recovering from an economic depression from suburbanization and the loss of its once-strong industrial base. Buffalo, NY’s population hit its peak in 1950, with over 580,000 residents, making it the 15th largest city in the United States. However, in every census that followed, the population of the city decreased as people began to spread out into the suburbs.
In recent years, there has been a slow, but steady increase of a younger demographic moving back into the city. A good majority of the homes in the area are older and could require updating to become more comfortable and have a more modern aesthetic. Since a lot of Millennials are choosing to plant their roots in the Buffalo area, they have all faced a common issue – who is going to upgrade the homes they’ve purchased?
